BCCI To Arrange Safe Passage For Players As IPL 2021 Gets Suspended Indefinitely

BCCI on Tuesday announced that IPL 2021 has been suspended with immediate effect. BCCI released an official press release on Tuesday to announce the decision to postpone the remaining matches of IPL 2021. The decision comes after IPL 2021 was affected by Covid-19. Two players from Kolkata Knight Riders, three support staff members of Chennai Super Kings, and one player from Delhi Capitals were tested positive for Covid-19.

From Kolkata Knight Riders, Sandeep Warrior and Varun Chakravarthy were tested positive for Covid-19. In the CSK squad, bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji, Chief Executive Kasi Viswanathan, and a bus cleaner were tested positive for Covid-19. On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra was also tested positive for Covid-19.

BCCI Postpones IPL 2021 With Immediate Effect

BCCI announced in its latest press release that it has postponed IPL 2021 after taking a decision in an emergency meeting on Tuesday. BCCI also said that they do not want to compromise on the safety of players, support staff, and participants of the tournament.

“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect.

“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind,” BCCI’s press release stated.

BCCI also said that it will arrange the safe passage of all IPL 2021 participants.

“The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021. The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchises, sponsors, partners and all the service providers who have tried their best to organise IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times,” the press release further said.

Three teams Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders were asked to go into quarantine. The Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match on Monday was also postponed.

Moreover, Chennai Super Kings’ upcoming match with Rajasthan Royals was also slated to be postponed. Earlier, news of BCCI shifting IPL 2021 matches to Mumbai were doing the rounds. However, BCCI has now come up with the decision to postponed IPL 2021.
